Yerkes named ODAC Female Track & Field Athlete of the Year
SALEM, Va. --- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) has named Roanoke College’s Robin Yerkes the 2008 recipient of the ODAC Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year award. This is the second-straight season that she has earned this award and the third-consecutive year that a Roanoke female athlete has received this award. Teammate and recent graduate Meredith Withers won it during her sophomore year in 2006.

Four Softball Players named VaSID All-State
Emory, Va. --- Four softball student-athletes were selected to the Virginia Sports Information Director’s (VaSID) All-State team announced today. Sophomore Kelsey Ruitenberg was named first-team while graduated seniors Hillary Hudgins, Loren Messick and Tamara Poles were each tabbed second-team honors.

Valles picks up VaSID State Rookie of the Year Honors
WINCHESTER, Va. – The women’s lacrosse team had four players selected to the College Division Women’s Lacrosse All-State team announced Sunday by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Gina Valles was named the VaSID State Rookie of the Year in addition to first-team honors. Amanda Hutchins, Alida Haslett and Katlyn Scarlett were each named second-team all-state.

Matt Quinton named VaSID State Rookie of the Year
Ashland, Va. --- Newcomer Matt Quinton was named the 2008 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Rookie of the Year announced yesterday. Graduated senior Billy Cameron was named first-team all-state while sophomore Pat March, Chas Carlson and Stephen Simmons were named to the second-team.

Valles named to WomensLacrosse.com National All-Rookie Team
Women’s Lacrosse standout Gina Valles was selected to the WomensLacrosse.com National All-Rookie Team announced this week. She was the only player from the ODAC and in the region to be selected to the team.

Cameron and Carlson named Honorable Mention All-American by USILA
The USILA has named senior Billy Cameron and junior Chas Carlson honorable mention All-America announced this week. This is the first time that Cameron has received this honor while Carlson earned his second All-American honor, being named pre-season All-American at the begininning of the season.

4x100 Relay Team Finished Second in Nation at NCAA Championships
Oshkosh, Wis. --- The women’s 4x100 relay team finished second in the nation at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wis. this afternoon. Robin Yerkes placed second in the 200-meter dash in 24.87. As a team, Roanoke finished with 27 points for fifth-place which is the highest point total and finish in school history.

Withers finishes career with solid performance at NCAA’s
Oshkosh, Wis. --- Senior Meredith Withers completed her collegiate career with a solid performance in the heptathlon at the 2008 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wis.

Sayers Named USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – Roanoke Track & Field Assistant Coach Shelli Sayers was honored at this week’s NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wis. She was awarded the South/Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
