Hall of Fame
Guy H. Spruhan
Inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame 1971.
- Came to Roanoke in 1912 and for four years coached football, baseball and basketball
- His teams in all these sports compiled numerous state and regional championships
- From Roanoke College, he went to VMI where he coached the famous Flying Squadron
- Back to Roanoke in 1921, he continued to produce championship teams
- He demanded nothing less than perfection from his players and set the example for them to follow
- He was commissioner of the Southwestern Virginia Football Officials’ Association at the time of his death
