Hall of Fame

Reid H. Duncan '17

Inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame 1972.

  • Regarded as one of Roanoke’s greatest athletes
  • During his four years, Duncan won 16 letters; five in football as a halfback, four in basketball as a guard, four as a center fielder in baseball, and three in track as a sprinter, relay man, hurdler and pole vaulter
  • Captain of the 1916 teams of football and baseball
  • In 1915-16, captain of the track team
  • The 1917 Most Outstanding Athlete
  • Served as President of the student body
  • From 1922-25, head coach of Roanoke City Public Schools, winning state championships in football, basketball, and baseball
