ROANOKE MAROONS Men's Soccer |
In 2001, Allison led his team to the number-11 spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III national rankings. The Maroons completed the 2001 season with an 18-3 overall record, an Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship, and a trip to the Third Round of the NCAA tournament. For his team’s accomplishments, Allison was named the league and Commonwealth of Virginia Coach of the Year. Allison's 1998 squad, which climbed to as high as number-four in the national rankings, will forever be remembered for its outstanding defensive play. The Maroons finished the year allowing just .405 goals per game, the lowest number in Division III and the second lowest in the nation, at any level. The 1993 campaign is Allison’s best season to date. The Maroons finished with a 20-4 record, the first of two straight ODAC championships, and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the quarterfinals, before losing to the eventual National Champion in four overtimes. Roanoke ranked as high as 19th in the nation, earning Allison the ODAC and South Region Coach of the Year awards. Allison, who was also named ODAC Coach of the Year in 1988 after leading the Maroons to the conference title, has been a jack-of-all-trades since his return to his alma mater. With Allison as athletics director, the Maroons’ athletic teams have enjoyed remarkable success in the ’90s. The Maroons have made 43 trips to the NCAA postseason this decade and have claimed 39 ODAC crowns. This past spring, Allison was named the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Division III Southeast Region AD of the Year. Roanoke College athletic facilities have dramatically improved during Allison's tenure as athletics director. His latest accomplishment was getting two new soccer fields built on the college's Elizabeth Campus. The fields saw their first varsity action in the fall of 1998. He was also one of the driving forces behind the construction of the Belk Fitness Center. The $750,000 facility opened in January of 1998 and features state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength training equipment. A 1979 graduate of Roanoke, Allison was inducted into the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. As an undergraduate, Allison was a member of the 1978 National Championship lacrosse team and received All-South and All-ODAC honors in soccer. He was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1979. Before returning to Roanoke, Allison was the men’s lacrosse coach and women’s soccer coach at Dartmouth College for three years. A native of Linthicum, MD, Allison earned a master’s degree from Salisbury State University in 1987. He currently resides in Salem with his wife Bonnie and has two children, Brooks and Claire. |
