KEATING IS NAMED DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Love is National Defenseman of the Year, Five Earn All-American Honors

SALEM, VA--Roanoke College senior Chris Keating has been named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III men’s Player of the Year, the first Maroon to receive the honor since 1978. Keating was a First Team All-American and the first Maroon player in team history to be named the national Midfielder of the Year. In addition to his honor, senior Ben Love was named the national Defenseman of the Year. He too was a First Team All-American. The pair was joined on the All-American squad by Jon Mason and Matt Madalon, who were both Second Team picks, and Rich Li who was an Honorable Mention pick. In addition to those awards, junior Brendan Moore was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Second Team All-District academic squad.

Keating was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and Virginia College Division Player of the Year and completed his final season with the Maroons with 65 points on 34 goals and 31 assists. He completed his Roanoke playing career as the highest scoring midfielder in program history.

Love earned First Team All-American honors for the second consecutive season, becoming just the third Maroon player to receive the honors in back-to-back seasons. He joins John Pirro, a three-time First Team All-American, and Chris Davin as the only players to be named a First Team All-American two consecutive seasons. Love finished his career as the all-time leader for the Maroons, among defenseman, in groundballs.

For the second consecutive season Mason played his way on to the Second Team All-American squad, again leading the Maroons in scoring. He registered 66 points on 57 goals and nine assists. The junior is the all-time leading goal scorer and ninth all-time leading point scorer in Roanoke history.

Like Mason, Madalon was on the Second Team All-American squad for the second year in a row. Madalon finished his senior season with 202 saves and his career with 604 saves, the fourth best total in Roanoke history. Madalon was the 2005 ODAC Player of the Year and was a First Team All-ODAC selection last season and this.

Li earned his way on to his first All-American list. After earning Second Team All-ODAC honors in each of his first three seasons with the Maroons, Li was a First Team All-Conference selection this season. The defender finished his senior season with 52 groundballs.

Moore, a junior, completed his third year at the college with a 3.8 grade point average with an Economics major. The attackman, who was Roanoke’s sixth leading scorer with 27 points, is the first Roanoke player to earn a spot on the All-District squad of the Academic All-American team.

Roanoke completed its season with a 15-3 overall record, the second straight season in which the Maroons compiled a school record 15 wins. The Maroons were defeated by Salisbury University 13-12 in overtime in the national semifinals.
