Three Cagers Make All-State Team

Dunleavy, Leftwich, and Barrett All Receive Honors

SALEM, VA--Three Roanoke College basketball players have been named to the Virginia College Division All-State teams in a vote held by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). On the men’s side, senior Brad Dunleavy (Roanoke, William Fleming) was a Second Team selection, while Colby Leftwich (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) was named to the Honorable Mention team. Crystal Barrett (Roanoke, VA/Northside) was Roanoke’s lone representative on the women’s team, earning Honorable Mention status.

Dunleavy completed his senior season in Salem averaging 13.6 points per game, the second best number on the team, and 4.4 rebounds a contest. He was named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s First Team All-Star squad and was a First Team All-South Region selection. Dunleavy finished his career with 1,079 career points.

Leftwich completed his career in a Maroon uniform as one of the best shooters in team history. He ranks third on RC’s all-time field goal percentage list, making 58.7 percent of his career attempts from the field. He completed this past season third on the team in scoring (11.5 ppg) and first in rebounding (8.6 rpg). He made 61.0 percent of his FG attempts this season and also finished third in steals with 43.

For the second consecutive season, Barrett proved herself to be one of the top centers in not only the ODAC, but also the South Region. The junior averaged 14.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, her second straight year of averaging a double-double. She finished with 259 rebounds in 2000-2001, the second highest single-season number in the storied annals of RC women’s basketball (second only to her own 301 last season). Barrett finished with 12 double-doubles during the year and connected on 57.7 percent of her tries from the field.
