Boyd and MacKeen Named ODAC Players of the Week

Both Help Respective Teams to Undefeated Records

SALEM, VA--Roanoke College student-athletes Ali Boyd (Bow, NH/Bow) and Blake MacKeen (Winston-Salem, NC/Forsyth Country Day) have both been named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Players of the Week. Boyd earned her honor in field hockey, while MacKeen was chosen as the men’s soccer Player of the Week. This is the first time either has been chosen as the conference’s Outstanding Player of the Week.

Boyd, a junior on the field hockey team, posted six goals and two assists as the Maroons got their season off to a 3-0 start, including a 2-0 mark in conference play. In a 19-0 win over Salem College, Boyd scored three times and added two assists as the Maroons set a school record for goals in one game. Roanoke’s leading scorer during the 1999 season then added one tally in a 5-0 decision over Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. On Saturday, she scored two second half goals as the Maroons defeated Bridgewater College and ran their shutout streak to 210 minutes. Boyd’s 14 points this season leads all RC players.

MacKeen starred for the Roanoke College men’s soccer team last week, helping the Maroons get off to a perfect 4-0 start. In the season’s opening game with LaRoche (PA) College, MacKeen scored one goal and helped on two others as RC won by the count of 5-0. The following day, the sophomore scored twice and tallied an assist as RC beat Cabrini (PA) College by the same 5-0 score. For his efforts during the two-day Domino’s Classic in Salem, MacKeen was named to the All-Tournament team. This past weekend, MacKeen helped RC to a 2-0 record in the Muhlenberg (PA) College Classic. He recorded an assist on both goals in RC’s 2-1 over Bethany (WV) College, and scored one time in a 6-0 triumph over Southern Maine.

The field hockey team hosts Sweet Briar on Wednesday at 4:30pm in an ODAC contest, while the men’s soccer team entertains Emory & Henry College, also on Wednesday. That game starts at 4:00pm.
