RC Runs at UVA Invitational
Maroon Women 6th, Men Place 8th
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA— Roanoke College women’s cross country runner Casey Smith (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) placed fifth overall at the 2000 University of Virginia Invitational, helping the Roanoke College women place sixth (out of 12) at the meet. The RC men’s cross country team placed eighth out of 12 teams at the race. Smith completed the 5,000 meter run in 18:49.49, 42 seconds off the winning pace of 18:07.32. Smith’s finish came behind only an unattached runner, two runners from William & Mary, and a runner from Liberty University. In addition to Smith’s time, the Maroon women also got a strong run from Alli McVey (Bowdoinham, ME/Mt. Ararat) who placed 42nd (out of 86) with a time of 21:24.12. Liz Sullivan (Blacksburg, VA/Blacksburg) finished just five runners behind McVey with a time of 21:51.80.
On the men’s side, Jason Belt (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Country Day) was RC’s top runner, placing 32nd overall, crossing the line in 27:52.73. Blake Dalton (Gretna, VA/Altavista) was 40th overall with a time of 28:10.89.
The Maroons travel to Lexington, VA next Saturday to run in the Washington & Lee Invitational.
