Six Named to All-ODAC Team
Boyd, Godbout, and Joyner on First Team
SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College field hockey team was represented by a total of six players on the 2000 Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Star team. Three of those players were chosen by league coaches to the First Team, one to the Second Team and two others to the Honorable Mention squad. The Maroons closed out the season with an 11-6 overall record. Ali Boyd (Bow, NH/Bow), Jodi Godbout (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial), and Mary Joyner (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Country Day) were Roanoke’s selections to the First Team.
Boyd was Roanoke’ stop scorer this season, the second straight year she has paced the Maroons. The junior scored 14 goals and handed out six assists for 34 points. She led the Maroons with four game-winning goals during the season and became just the third RC player in the past four years to reach 30 career goals.
Godbout was named to the ODAC’s First Team for the second straight years. Godbout posted nine shutouts during the season, allowing just 11 goals past her while stopping 97 opponents shots. She ended the season with a .898 save percentage and a 0.66 goals against average.
Joyner was one of Roanoke’s key players in the midfield, ending the season with four goals and three assists for 11 points. This was the first time in her RC career that Joyner has been named to the All-ODAC’s First Team. She earned Second Team honors last season for the Maroons.
On the Second Team from Roanoke was sophomore defender Nicole Yodice (Branchville, NJ/High Point Regional). Yodice was tied for third in the scoring column this season, recording 11 points on five goals and an assist.
Both Allary Briatsch (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) and Sarah Tengwall (Arnold, MD/St. Mary’s) were named to the Honorable Mention All-ODAC team. Briatsch started all 17 games on the defensive line for RC. She was a key factor in the team allowing just 12 goals all season. Tengwall was the second leading scorer on the team with 17 points on six goals and five assists. She had three game-winning goals as well.
