SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College field hockey team traveled to Hollins University on Tuesday and came away with a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory. The Maroons improve to 8-3 overall and in a strange scheduling quirk close out their ODAC season with a 6-2 record. The Maroons will play their final five games of the season against non-conference opponents. For the second time in the past two games, junior Sarah Tengwall (Arnold, MD/St. Mary’s) scored the game-winning goal for the Maroons, this one coming with 8:49 left in the first half. Freshman Carrie Smith (Charlottesville, VA/Monticello) assisted on the Tengwall goal and then just six minutes later scored her third goal of the season. Mary Joyner (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Country Day) assisted on the Smith goal, which came off of a penalty corner. Ali Boyd (Bow, NH/Bow) scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the second half to make the final margin three goals.
The Maroons are off for the next week and head back to action on the 10th with a game against Virginia Tech’s club team. The game will not count in the standing or stats. The Maroons’ next varsity game will come two days later as they travel to Division II Catawba College for a 4:00 pm game.
