RADFORD, VA--The Washington & Lee golf team claimed the championship of the Roanoke College Golf Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the River Course in Radford, VA. The Generals teamed up to fire a 292, 19 strokes better than Roanoke College and Lynchburg College, which both tied for second. Bridgewater and Hampden-Sydney both recorded 314s to tie for fourth, while Emory & Henry had a 325. Roanoke’s ‘B’ team had a team score of 322. Washington & Lee golfers took the top four spots, with Chip Campbell and Chuck Green tying for first. Both shot even-par 72s and were two strokes better than teammates David Haase and Curtis Bethea, who both carded 74 on the 6,644-yard course. Hampden-Sydney’s Brent Gammon and Lynchburg’s Tyler Crulle each tied for third place with scores of 74. Roanoke’s top golfer on the day was Jeff Deacon, who had a round of 75.
