Guilford Wins ODAC Championship

GC's Savio Nazareth Wins Individual Title

BLUEFIELD, VA--The Guilford College men’s golf team won its second consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference golf championship, putting together a two-day total of 607 at the Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, VA. The Quakers, who have also won three of the past four titles, shot a combined 304 on the first day, and followed with a 303 on Tuesday to better second place Washington & Lee University by two strokes. The Generals led after day-one by five strokes over Guilford after shooting a 299 on Monday. With is team’s championship, Guilford coach Jack Jensen was named the ODAC Coach of the Year.

Guilford’s Savio Nazareth was the tournament’s top finisher, shooting a 76 on Monday and backing that up with a tournament-low 71 on Tuesday afternoon to finish with a 147. Also for the Quakers, Andrew Biggadike tied for third with a 151, while David Patterson’s 153 was good enough for a tie for fifth place.

Washington and Lee’s top finishers were Chip Campbell and Chuck Green, who each carded a 151 and tied for third. After leading the pack with a 299 on Monday, the Generals followed with a 310 on Tuesday, the day’s second best team score.

After heading into the second round in a three-way tie for first place with a 74, Lynchburg’s Justin Heimer fired a 76 on Tuesday and finished second overall with a two-day score of 150.

Emory & Henry’s Clay Davis and Hampden-Sydney’s JB Richardson each tied for sixth place with 152s, but Davis was named to the All-Tournament team, along with the five players above him.
