Maroons Take Second At State Invitational

Geoff Fountain Finishes in Second Place

FRONT ROYAL, VA--The Roanoke College golf team placed second at the Virginia Division II-III state championships on Sunday, finishing with a two-day team total of 615, 27 strokes behind champion Averett College. The Maroons placed third at last season’s state tournament.

Roanoke senior Geoff Fountain was the second place individual, firing a total of 148. Fountain shot a 72 on Saturday and followed with a 76 on Sunday afternoon. Fountain was 11 strokes off the championship pace. Also for the Maroons, Tim Desmarais finished in 11th place. Desmarais rebounded from an 80 on Saturday with a 74 on Sunday afternoon. Bryan Cotton tied for 12th with a two-day total of 155 (79-76).

The Maroons return to action on April 23 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship which will be held at the Fincastle Country Club.
