Hollett Wins Three Events at BWC Invitational

Maroon Men Pick-up Two Wins, Two School Records Fall

BEREA, OH--Roanoke College junior Emily Hollett (Roanoke, VA/Northside) was the star of the Baldwin-Wallace College indoor track & field meet over the weekend, winning three events: the long, triple, and high jumps. In addition to Hollett’s three first places, the Maroons also got two record setting performances from the women’s squad and two other first place finishes by the men’s team.

Hollett won the high jump with a leap of 5’ and then followed with a 17’ 3/4” jump in the long jump to take first place in both events. Before the day was done, the junior had racked up another first place medal with a 34’ 6” performance in the triple jump. The Maroons also took first place in the 3,000 meters, the 55-meter hurdles and the 4 x 200 relay.

Junior Casey Smith (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee), a cross country All-American in the fall, won the 3,000 meters in a school-record 10:37.65. Senior Shelli Stevens (Blacksburg, VA/Blacksburg) ran her fastest time in the 55-meter hurdles since her sophomore season, wining the event in 8.90 seconds. The team of Stevens, Steph Dannemann (New Concord, OH/John Glenn), Christie Leiber (Salem, VA/Salem), and Sindy Wilson (Suitland, MD/St. Stephan’s-St. Agnes) shattered a school-record in the 4 x 200 relay, completing the race in 1:54.03, breaking the old mark by over eight seconds.

On the men’s side, Ryan Nunley (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day School) was the top finisher in the triple jump, posting a distance of 40’ while also placing third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.49). Nunley joined Jim Lerda (Vienna, VA/LaPlata), Jason Dennis (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale), and Andrew Pratt (Draper, VA/Pulaski County) in winning the men’s 4 x 200 relay in 1:38.7, just one second of school-record pace.

The Roanoke indoor track & field team will return to action January 27-28 as they participate in the East Tennessee State Invitational.
