Strickland, Dunleavy Named to Second Team All-ODAC
Butler and Leftwich Earn Honorable Mention Selection
SALEM, VA--Roanoke College juniors Jason Strickland (Charlottesville, VA/Covenant) and Brad Dunleavy (Roanoke, VA/William Fleming) were named to the Second Team Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Conference men’s basketball team on Friday night in a vote of league coaches. Also earning accolades from the coaches were Paris Butler (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) and Colby Leftwich (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) who each were named to the Honorable Mention squad. Strickland earned his honors despite missing five games late in the season after suffering a knee injury, from which he has since returned. The junior led the team in scoring for a vast majority of the season and continues to top the team’s rebounding column. An Honorable Mention pick last season, Strickland is averaging 14.5 points per game and 6.6 rebounds this year. Before being injured, he was on pace to set a new Roanoke College record in the steals column. He still leads the club in that category with 55 this season.
Dunleavy earns his first selection to the All-ODAC team after a regular season in which he finished atop the club’s scoring column, posting 14.7 points per game. Twice this season, Dunleavy scored a career-high 25 points. He became the first player at Roanoke since the 1993-94 season to score 20 or more points in four consecutive games. Dunleavy also lead the team in assists this season, handing out a career-high 88.
Butler was an Honorable Mention selection follow last season and earns the honors again this year. Butler is the team’s leading three-point threat, having knocked in 66 on the season. Butler is also averaging a career-high 11.8 points per game and is second on the club with 68 assist. Leftwich takes a place on an All-ODAC team for the first time in his career. The leader on the team in field goal percentage (60.0%), Leftwich is pouring in 10.4 points a night and 6.5 rebounds each time out.
These four will lead the Maroons into the ODAC tournament on Saturday, as the squad opens up with Eastern Mennonite University at 6:00 pm at the Salem Civic Center in the quarterfinals. Roanoke is currently 20-4 on the season and after going through the conference slate 15-3 is the second seed heading into the postseason.
