Evan Kaplow Named ODAC Player of the Week
Goalie Made 23 Saves As Roanoke Went 2-0
SALEM, Va.--Roanoke College’s Evan Kaplow (Chappaqua, NY/Chappaqua), a senior goaltender on the men’s lacrosse team, has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s mens lacrosse Player of the Week. Kaplow helped Roanoke to a 2-0 record last week, making 23 saves in the two games while allowing just eight goals in 116 minutes of play. With Kaplow’s assistance, Roanoke improved to 5-8 on the season and 3-3 in the league. On Wednesday, the Maroons traveled to Ashland, VA to play conference foe Randolph-Macon College. In Roanoke’s 9-5 victory, Kaplow turned aside 16 shots in 58 minutes of play, while giving up just four goals. Eleven of his 16 stops came in the first half, as the Maroons held RMC scoreless through the first two periods of play. He denied five more shots in the second, as Roanoke cruised to its 23rd all-time victory over the Yellow Jackets.
Kaplow and the Maroons returned home on Saturday afternoon to play host to the Marymount Saints, and again in 58 minutes of play, Kaplow held the opponent to just four scores. He stopped seven shots in the game, increasing his season total to 159 and his career total to 336. With Kaplow in goal, the Maroons held Marymount scoreless for the final 25:10 of the contest to come out with a 10-4 victory, giving Roanoke head coach Bill Pilat his 100th career win.
In addition to his 159 saves this year, Kaplow also has all five of the team’s wins. He has started all but one game this season, and all but the one over the past two years. His 336 career saves are the eighth most in school-history.
Kaplow, the first RC men's lacrosse player to win this honor this year, will lead his team into Greensboro, NC on Wednesday to play the Greensboro College Pride. The Maroons will be looking for their sixth victory of the season and third consecutive overall.
