Fasanaro, Taylor Score Five in 24-6 Rout

Maroons Now 2-0 After Win Over Dickinson College

SALEM, VA--Gregg Fasanaro (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) and David Taylor (Butler, MD/St. Paul’s) each scored five goals as the Roanoke College men’s lacrosse team defeated Dickinson College, 24-6, on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Maroons improve to 2-0 on the season, while the loss drops Dickinson’s record to 0-2. Roanoke’s 24-goal day was its largest offensive output since scoring 25 in a win over Guilford College during the 1997 season.

Roanoke scored more goals in the first period than the Red Devils were able to score for the entire game. Taylor got the Maroons on the board first, scoring just over three minutes into the contest, taking a crossing pass from freshman Andy Bonasera (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington), who finished the game with five assists and two goals. The Maroons would score the next two goals before DC was able to get on the board with 7:47 left in the first quarter. Roanoke scored the next seven goals, including three in the span of just 1:12 in the first period. Ed Dover (Towson, MD/Towson) got that run started with his first of the season. James Canedy (E. Orleans, MA/Falmouth) won the ensuing face-off, charged down the field and scored just 10 seconds after Dover. Fasanaro capped the run with 4:31 left in the first.

Brandon DeVoe (Duxbury, MA/Cohasset) got the start and the win in the goal for the Maroons. In 30 minutes of action, DeVoe stopped four Red Devil shots. Tim Morse (Santa Fe, NM/Tabor) played 24 minutes in the cage for RC, making five saves.

After RC went into the break sporting a 12-3 lead, Dickinson scored the first goal of the third period, but the Maroons tallied the next nine goals to put the game well out of reach. Neil Adam (Murrysville, PA/Franklin) scored an extra-man goal for the Maroons during the 9-0 spurt, while freshman Joe Weeren (Winchester, MA/Winchester) scored two of his three goals during the run. In all, 11 players scored at least one goal for the Maroons, while 15 had at least one point.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday as they take on the Red Dragons of Cortland State in Charlottesville, VA. The game, which is scheduled to be played at St. Anne’s School, will begin at 4:00. Last season Cortland State was a 10-9 winner over the Maroons in Salem.
