Hoffmann '93 Earns World Team Tryout

Lawrence '98 Drafted by Bridgeport of MLL

BALTIMORE, MD-Former Roanoke College men’s lacrosse star Steve Hoffmann ’93 will be one of 143 players trying out for the 2002 United States World Championship team. Hoffmann will participate in the tryouts which will be held from June 14-17 at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE. Hoffmann will be one of 42 defensemen at the tryouts which will result in just 23 players earning a spot on the team that will compete for the International Lacrosse Federation World Championship. The championships will be held in Perth, Australia in July of 2002.

Hoffmann was a two-time All-American during his playing career at Roanoke. He was a Third Team selection in 1992 and went on to earn First Team honors during his 1993 senior season. With the Hoffmann’s assistance, the Maroons advanced to the 1992 national championship game, where they fell to Nazareth College. Hoffmann will be one of just 13 former Division III players trying out for a spot on the national team.

Earlier this season, former Maroon Peter Lawrence ’98 was selected in the eight round of the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) draft by the Bridgeport (CT) Barrage. Lawrence was the 1998 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was a First Team All-American that season. Lawrence is currently an assistant coach with the Whittier (CA) College Poets.
