Francois First TEamer, Three Others Second Team Selections

SALEM, VA--Roanoke College men’s soccer star Regi Francois (Springfield, VA/Washington International) was named to the First Team All-South Region team for his play for the Maroons in 2000, while three other players received Second Team accolades. Todd Smith (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven), Ryan Pflugrad (Columbia, MD/Hammond), and Harold McConnell (Sussex, NJ/High Point Regional) were Roanoke’s representatives on the Second Team.

From his midfield position, Francois tallied 34 points on 14 goals and six assists during his sophomore season. He was also a First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection this season, which saw him score four game-winning goals.

Smith was Roanoke’s top defender during the 2000 season, his final college campaign. His control of the defensive end of the field was the key in Roanoke allowing just 18 goals on the year. He also had six goals and six assists.

Pflugrad completed the season as Roanoke’s scorer, posting 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points. He scored a team-high six game-winning goals on the season and established new career highs in all offensive categories.

Another outstanding Roanoke midfielder, McConnell recorded 12 points on three goals and six assists on the season. McConnell often dictated the pace of play in the midfield, creating Roanoke scoring chances and denying opposition scoring chances.
