SALEM, VA--Off to its best start in team history, the Roanoke College men’s soccer team climbed to the 10th spot in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III national poll. The Maroons, who are 9-0 on the 2000 campaign, were ranked 17th in last week’s poll. In addition, the Maroons took sole possession of the number-two ranking in the South Region. For the previous two weeks they had shared the position with Christopher Newport. Last week, Roanoke defeated two regional ranked opponents, Randolph-Macon and Hampden-Sydney. Bryan Vann scored in double-overtime to give RC a 2-1 win over the Yellow Jackets, while Ryan Pflugrad’s goal late in the second half against Hampden-Sydney propelled the Maroons to a 4-3 victory.
The Maroons are currently 4-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference heading into a showdown with Washington & Lee University on Wednesday afternoon. The Generals will head into Salem as the South Region’s fifth ranked team.
