Maroons Win 12th of the Season
4-1 Over Eastern Mennonite

Francois Nets Game-Winner, Maroons Now 12-1, 7-1

HARRISONBURG, VA--The Roanoke College men’s soccer team spotted the Eastern Mennonite Royals a 1-0 lead before scoring the match’s final four goals in the 4-1 win on Saturday. The Maroons, ranked 17th in the country, are now 12-1 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. The host Royals fall to 4-9, 2-5 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Royals jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 4:14 into the contest on a goal from Andrew Peifer. David Lechtrecker (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) sent the game into the half tied at one with a goal in the 29th minute. Blake MacKeen (Winston-Salem, NC/Forsyth Country Day) had an assist on the play. The Maroons managed just the one goal despite outshooting the Royals, 13-9, in the half.

The second half was much more productive for the Maroons, as they scored three times to put the game out of reach. Regi Francois (Springfield, VA/Washington International) scored in the game’s 53rd minute, a goal that was the game-winner, his fourth of the season. Harold McConnell (Sussex, NJ/High Point Regional) returned to the RC lineup and added his third goal of the season, while Ryan Pflugrad (Columbia, MD/Hammond) closed out RC’s scoring in the contest. Todd Smith (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) posted two assists in the contest, as did MacKeen.

RC keeper Chris Ebeling (Ellicott City, MD/Oakland Mills) made five saves in just over 78 minutes of work, while Michael Greene (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) played the final 11 minutes for the Maroons.

RC hosts Christopher Newport University at 4:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon at RC’s Elizabeth Campus complex. CNU was rated fourth in the South Region in the October 9th polls.
