Pflugrad's Goal Lifts RC to Victory

Maroons Beat Mary Washington, 1-0

SALEM, VA--Ryan Pflugrad (Columbia, MD/Hammond) provided the game’s only goal as the Roanoke College men’s soccer team handed the Mary Washington Eagles a 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons, who are ranked 20th in the nation and third in the South Region, improve to 6-0 on the year. Mary Washington, the region’s fifth ranked team heading into the contest, falls to 3-2. The loss avenges a 2-0 Roanoke loss to the Eagles last season.

Pflugrad converted a rebound of a Bryan Galazka (Palmyra, VA/Kenston) shot with 13:27 left in the first half to provide the game-winning margin. The remaining minutes of the contest were very defensive, as both teams combined to get just 14 shots off in the contest.

Roanoke keeper Chris Ebeling (Ellicott City, MD/Oakland Mills) and Mary Washington goalie Brian Hall (Greensboro, NC/Western Guilford) had to make just two stops each. The second of Hall’s saves came late in the second half, ‘robbing’ the Maroons of their second goal.

This was Roanoke’s fifth shutout of the season, already one better than it had all of last season. RC is currently outscoring its opponents, 23-1, on the 2000 season.

Roanoke heads to Bridgewater College on Wednesday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference showdown with the Eagles. The game in Bridgewater starts at 4:00 pm.
