Maroons Trounce Southern Maine, 6-0

Six Different Maroons Score in Fourth Win Of Year

ALLENTOWN, PA--The Roanoke College men’s soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-0 win over Southern Maine University on Saturday in the Muhlenberg (PA) College Invitational. The win on Saturday comes on the heels of a 2-1 win over Bethany on Friday afternoon.

Six different Maroons scored goals on Saturday in the win. Regi Francois (Springfield, VA/Washington International) scored in the game’s 31st minute, on an assist from Harold McConnell (Sussex, NJ/High Point Regional) and Tim Wright (Richmond, VA/James River). The Maroons would go up 2-0 at the break, after David Lechtrecker (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) scored hiss second goal of the season. McConnell added a goal in the second half on a penalty kick, as the Maroons scored four times as the Maroons put the game well out of reach. Todd Smith (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) also scored a goal and had an assist in the win.

Chris Ebeling (Ellicott City, MD/Oakland Mills) only had to make two saves in the RC net, as the Maroons outshot SMU, 35-2 in the contest. Roanoke is just two wins away from matching its best start in 10 years. The 1998 squad got off to a 6-0 start to the season. The Maroons host Emory & Henry College on Wednesday in the team’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference season-opener.
