Holly Morris Named ODAC Player of the Week

Sophomore Led Maroons to 7-0 Record

SALEM, Va.--Roanoke College sophomore Holly Morris (Barrington, RI/Barrington) was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday after she led the Maroons to a perfect 7-0 record last week. This is the first time in her collegiate tenure that Morris has garnered this honor. The Maroons, currently on a seven-game winning streak, are now 10-4 this year. Morris becomes the first RC softball player to be named the conference’s Player of the Week, since the first selection of the 1998 campaign.

Morris played in all seven wins last week, went a combined 12-of-22 (.545) from the plate, hit two homeruns (including a grandslam), drove in 15 runners, stole five bases, and scored six runs for the Maroons. In a 13-0 win over Frostburg State in the Ferrum College Invitational, Morris provided the big blow as she connected on her first career grandslam. She finished the day with the four RBIs, and also stole a base and scored a run. She also drove in four Roanoke base runners in a 15-2 victory over Shenandoah University. She crossed the plate three times in the game and stole another base.

For the season, Morris is leading the Maroons in batting average (.488), hits (21), homeruns (4), RBIs (24), and slugging percentage (.837). She currently has a 12-game hitting streak, and has been held hitless in just one game this year, the team’s second of the season (vs. Bloomsburg). Among league leaders, she is first in RBIs, second in homeruns, third in slugging percentage, and fourth in batting average and stolen bases.

Morris will lead the Maroons into this weekend’s Roanoke/Bridgewater Fast-Pitch Classic which is being held at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, VA. The Maroons will begin their Saturday with a contest against Chowan College (at 9:00 am) and then will play Rowan University and the University of Charleston (WV) later in the day.
