Casey Smith Named Athlete of the Meet

Junior Sets School record in 3,000 Meters

SALEM, VA--Roanoke College’s Casey Smith was named the 2000 Roanoke College track & field Invitational Female Athlete of the Meet on Saturday after breaking the school record in the 3,000 meter race and also taking home a first place finish in the 1,500 meter race. Adam Ressler of Susquehanna (PA) University was named the Male Athlete of the Meet after tossing an NCAA Provisional Qualifier in the javelin.

Smith ran the 3,000 meter race in 10:27.08, shattering her own school record by 12 seconds. In the 1,500 meter run, Smith also was the top finisher, crossing the line in 4:55.60. Also for the Roanoke College women’s team, Emily Hollett took home a first place finish in the high jump and finished third in the triple jump, with a distance of 34’ 1/4”. The RC women also were second in the 4 X 100 meter race. Steph Dannemann, who was named the W&L Athlete of the Meet last week, had two third place finishes (100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles), and Sindy Wilson crossed the line in the 200 meter dash in 27.81, good enough for third.

On the men’s side, Roanoke’s day was highlighted by a first place finish in the distance medley. The Maroons ran the four-leg race in 10:51.6. In addition to running a leg of the winning medley team, sophomore Blake Dalton was third in the 800 meters (2:00.51). Jim Lerda was third in the 100 meter dash (11.34) and fourth in the 200 meters (23.61).

Adam Ressler from Susquehanna recorded a distance of 190’ 2” in the javelin, marking an NCAA Provisional Qualifier in the event. Ressler was also first in the high jump, and was subsequently named Athlete of the Meet.
