Bridgewater Too Strong for Maroons

Eagles Drop RC 15-8, 15-6, 6-15, 16-14

SALEM, VA--The Bridgewater College volleyball team handed the Roanoke College Maroons a 3-1 home loss on Thursday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 12-12 overall on the season and 7-2 in ODAC play, while the Maroons fall to 13-7 on the year and 5-2 in conference action.

Bridgewater won the first two games, 15-8 and 15-6, before the Maroons fought back to take game three by the count of 15-6. Roanoke pushed Bridgewater to the limit in the fourth game, but the Eagles prevailed, 16-14.

Molly Zigler (Broadway, VA/Timberville) highlighted RC’s performance in the match, posting team-highs in both kills (13) and digs (16). Sarah Grimes (Baltimore, MD/Lansdowne) chipped in 10 kills for the Maroons, while Holly Holland’s (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) again led in the assists column with 40. Lori Dillon (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) had eight digs and five service aces for the Maroons on the day.

The Maroons return to action this coming Saturday with a home contest against Lynchburg College, The match, which is RC’s last home contest of the regular season, begins at 2:00pm.
