Roanoke to Play Emory & Henry in ODAC Quarterfinals
Maroons Swept Two From Wasps During the Season
SALEM, Va.--The Roanoke College women's basketball team will play the Emory & Henry Wasps in the Quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's tournament. Roanoke is the second seed in the tournament, while E&H comes in as the number-seven seed. The game is slated to tip-off at 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 25th at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA. The Maroons went 2-0 against E&H in the regular season this year. On January 21st, the Maroons pulled out a 14-point win in Emory (63-49) and followed up with a 13-point win on February 2nd in Salem (65-52). The Maroons have now won nine of the past 10 meetings with the Wasps, and hold a 35-16 all-time series lead.
This will be the 12th meeting between the Maroons and Wasps in the ODAC tournament. Roanoke holds a 10-1 lead when the teams butt heads in the tournament, and has won two of its ODAC-record 12 conference titles by virtue of victories over Emory & Henry (1983-84 and 1994-95). The two teams met in seven consecutive tournaments from 1983 until 1989, with RC taking all but one game (1988).
Roanoke enters the tournament with a 19-5 record, 17-3 in league play, but is currently on a two-game losing streak. A win on Thursday would give the Maroons their 12th 20-win season under the direction of head coach Susan Dunagan. RC has won the past two conference crowns, and seven of the past eight.
