Maroons Drop First Home Game
Roanoke Shoots 25 Percent in the Second Half, Fall to BC

SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College women’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on its home court, falling to Bridgewater College on Tuesday evening by the final score of 62-59. The Maroons are now 10-4 on the year and 8-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, while Bridgewater moves to 11-2, 8-1. Roanoke held a 38-29 halftime lead, but went on to shoot just 25 percent from the field in the second half and went scoreless over the final 3:41 of the contest, letting BC take command of the game with just 2:04 left. The Maroons held as much as a 12-point lead in the second half, that with 6:32 to go. Bridgewater’s lead was its first in the contest since the 12:38 mark of the first half, when it led 16-13. Roanoke’s poor second half shooting came after it had hit on 14 of its 30 attempts (46.7%) in the first half.
The Eagles scored 16 of the game’s final 17 points. Amanda Kyger (Timberville, VA/Broadway) hit a layup with 3:14 to go, giving BC its first lead of the second half.
After a Sarah Hagood (Shawsville, VA/Shawsville) three-point made the score 16-13 in favor of BC, Roanoke went on a 14-4 run to take a seven-point lead, 27-20, with 7:18 left in the first stanza. Roanoke extended its lead to nine heading into halftime on a layup by junior Suzanne Webb (Narrows, VA/Narrows).
The Maroons were led by Jill Quesenberry (Willis, VA/Floyd County) who had a team-high 10 points in the contest. Holly Weber (Stuart, VA/Patrick County) added seven points to the Roanoke offense, while three others scored six each. Crystal Barrett (Roanoke, VA/Northside) led all rebounders with 13.
Kyger, who scored the game’s final seven points, led all scorers with 19 points on the night. Hagood chipped in 16, while Megan Forster (Shawsville, VA/Shawsville) had 10 for the winning Eagles. The Eagle defense stifled the Maroons in the second half, forcing nine turnovers and blocking three shots. For the game, Bridgewater ended up with eight blocks.
The Maroons take the rest of the week off until they host Randolph-Macon Woman’s College on Saturday afternoon. The game is slated to start at 12:30 in the Bast Center on Roanoke College.
