RC Falls to Bridgewater, 81-67
Maroons Drop to 14-6, 12-4, Have Lost Four of Five to BC

SALEM, VA--The Bridgewater College Eagles swept the Roanoke College women’s basketball team in the regular season meetings with an 81-67 win over the Maroons on Saturday afternoon in Salem. The Maroons fall to 14-6 on the season, 12-4 in league play, while the Eagles improve to 18-4, 15-3. The win was the fourth in the past five games for the Eagles over the Maroons. BC defeated Roanoke, 85-76, in Bridgewater, VA earlier this season. The game was tight for the entire first half and the first five minutes of the second. At that point, Bridgewater went on a 19-6 run to extend its lead out to 13 points, 61-48, with 6:30 to go. The Eagles pushed the lead to as much as 14, and only saw Roanoke cut the lead to single digits twice the rest of the way. The Eagles scored 13 of their final 15 points from the free throw line to hold off the Maroons, who made two three-pointers in the final 1:14 to keep the game within reach.
Neither team was able to get more than a four-point lead in the first half. Roanoke’s biggest lead of the first half was at 23-20, while the Eagles snagged a four-point lead several times in the first. The game was tied five times in the first half. Bridgewater’s Lindsey Coleman (Buena Vista, VA) broke one of those ties with just three seconds left, canning a jumper to give the Eagles a 33-31 lead heading into the break. Roanoke came out of the intermission scoring the first six points in the first 1:07 and taking a 37-33 lead, its largest of the game.
Bridgewater had four players hit double-figures, including a 24-point effort from senior guard Amanda Osborn (Edmeston, NY). Osborn was 7-for-13 from the field and 8-for-8 from the line. Her sister, Angela Osborn, chipped in 12 points and hit the 1,000 career point mark. Sarah Hagood (Shawsville, VA) dropped in 14 points and grabbed a game-best 14 rebounds. The Eagles shot 56.5 percent from the field in the second half, and hit 22 of their 25 free throw attempts in the contest.
Katrina Williams (Salem, VA/Glenvar) led the Maroons in the scoring column for the fourth consecutive game, scoring 12 points. Amber Kern (Roanoke, VA/Northside) added 11 points for the Maroons, who have lost the past two home meetings with the Eagles.
Roanoke gets a busy week underway next Tuesday with a road game against Guiford College. The Maroons will then play Randolph-Macon at home on Thursday. The Maroons then head to Lynchburg and Washington & Lee in a Saturday-Sunday double-header.
