Williams Leads RC to Win Over Hollins
Maroons Improve to 12-5, 10-3

ROANOKE, VA--Katrina Williams (Salem, VA/Glenvar) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Roanoke College women’s basketball team to a 75-57 win over Hollins University on Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Maroons improve to 12-5 on the season and 10-3 in league action, while Hollins drops to 7-11, 4-10. Roanoke led just 34-26 at the break, but outscored Hollins, 41-31, in the second half to pull away for the 18-point win. The Maroons shot just 31.4 percent from the field in the first half, but connected on 53.3 percent of their attempts in the second. The Maroons turned the ball over just 12 times, but forced 24 Hollins give-aways. Williams led the defensive effort as well, picking up five steals in the win.
Junior center Crystal Barrett (Roanoke, VA/Northside) scored 14 points, going 6-of-9 from the field, and also added seven rebounds, a team-high matched by senior Suzanne Webb (Narrows, VA/Narrows). Sophomore forward Liz Sloop (Raleigh, NC/WG Enloe) scored a career-high 12 points in the win and also grabbed four missed shots.
Roanoke went 7-of-18 from the three-point line in the win, with three of those coming off the stroke of Williams. Amber Kern (Roanoke, VA/Northside) went 2-for-2, while Sloop made her lone three-point attempt of the game.
Roanoke returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Emory, VA to play the Wasps of Emory & Henry College. The game, which starts at 7:00pm, is a rematch of a January 25th matchup which saw the Maroons win in Salem, 71-43.
