Maroons Handle RMWC With Ease

SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College women’s basketball team cruised to a 79-42 win over the Randolph-Macon Woman’s College Wildcats on Monday night in Lynchburg, VA. The Maroons are now 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference. RMWC falls to 1-3 overall. Katrina Williams (Salem, VA/Glenvar) and Suzanne Webb (Narrows, VA/Narrows) each scored 12 points to lead the way for the Maroons. Williams also added three assists and two steals in the win. Sophomore Liz Sloop (Raleigh, NC/WG Enloe) came off the bench to drop in a career-best 10 points for the victorious Maroons. Sloop went 4-of-7 from the field and grabbed four rebounds. All but one Roanoke player scored in the game, while all 13 got double-digits in the minutes column.
The Maroons defense stifled the Wildcats all game long. The Wildcats shot just 25.0 percent (15-for-60) from the field and turned the ball over 25 times. Roanoke also edged RMWC in the rebounding column, 47-44.
The Maroons held a 39-18 halftime lead in the contest and outscored the Wildcats, 40-24, in the second half. The win is the fifth straight for the Maroons over the Wildcats.
The Maroons head to Ashland, VA on Thursday night to play the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon. Game time in Ashland is 7:00pm.
