Quesenberry Ices Washington & Lee, 61-59

Sophomore Hits Two FTs With 16 Seconds Left, Maroons Now 8-2

LEXINGTON, VA--Sophomore Jill Quesenberry (Willis, VA/Floyd County) hit two free throws with just 16 second left to give the women's basketball team a 61-59 win over host Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons are now 8-2 on the season and 6-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

The Maroons trailed by as many as seven points in the second half, but went on an 18-2 run to go up by nine points with just under 11 minutes left. The Generals fought back into the contest and tied the game at 59 with 46 seconds remaining. After Quesenberry drained her two free throws, the Generals had a chance to tie, but saw two shots in the final seconds fall short.

Suzanne Webb (Narrows, VA/Narrows) paced the Maroon offensive game on the afternoon, scoring a game-high 21 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. The junior also had four rebounds and a steal in the contest. Quesenberry was the only other Maroon in double-figures, finishing with 12 markers. Carrie McConnell (Radford, VA/Pulaski County) dished out eight assists in the contest, while Crystal Barrett (Roanoke, VA/Northside) had a team-best 10 boards.

The Maroons return to action on Monday in Norfolk, VA as they play the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan. RC has already beaten VWC once this season, 81-58, in Salem.
