Junior Earns Second Team Nod, Wernert HM
BALTIMORE, MD--Roanoke College junior women’s lacrosse defender Sarah Tengwall (Arnold, MD/St. Mary’s) was named to the USLacrosse Division III Second Team All-American squad on Wednesday. Along with Tengwall’s selection, senior Kylie Wernert (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) was named to the Honorable Mention squad. Wernert was named a Third Team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) earlier this week. Tengwall, who was a First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference all-star this season, led the Maroons in groundballs this season (75) and finished just out of first place on the team’s caused turnovers list with 53. Tengwall, who scored her first college goal during the season, turned the ball over just 10 times all season. She was also a First Team All-Region selection this season.
Wernert was Roanoke’s leading scorer this season and was named the ODAC Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference honors for the second time in her career.
Tengwall and Wernert are Roanoke’s 41st and 42nd All-Americans since the 1987 season.
