Maroons Beat Bridgewater in Season-Opener
Amy Kelaher Scores Six Goals, Adds Two Helpers in Win
BRIDGEWATER, VA--Amy Kelaher (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored six goals and added two assists as the Roanoke College women’s lacrosse team opened its 2000 season with a 21-10 win over host Bridgewater College on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons are of course 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Before the game was even 10 minutes old and before Bridgewater could score a goal, thee Maroons jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Sophomore Erin Harding (Hunt Valley, MD/Notre Dame Prep) got the first goal of the season, taking a pass from Emily Metro (Crofton, MD/Arundel) and beating the BC keeper.
Leslie Hunt (Baltimore, MD/Towson) scored Roanoke’s sixth goal of the contest and then scored a natural hat trick later in the first half. Hunt finished with four goals and an assist on the day. The Maroons went into halftime with a 12-5 lead and were never challenged in the second half. A total of 10 different players scored goals for the Maroons in the game. Senior goalkeeper Debbie Apazidis (Norwalk, CT/New Canaan) made 14 saves for the Maroons.
Roanoke returns to action on March 15th as they travel to Fredericksburg, VA to play the Mary Washington Eagles.
