Rowan University Too Much For Maroons, 14-5

Roanoke Can't Rebound from 9-1 Halftime Deficit

GLASSBORO, NJ--The Roanoke College women’s lacrosse team fell to the Rowan University Profs on Saturday afternoon, 14-5, in Glassboro, NJ. The Maroons, who entered the game ranked seventh in the country, fall to 9-3 on the season, while Rowan, the 12th ranked team in the nation, improves to 7-2.

Rowan scored the first goal of the game, but the Maroons answered right back on the power of an Ellie Page (Savannah, GA/Berkshire) goal at the 20:50 mark of the first half. From there, the Profs went on an 8-0 run in the first half, and a 9-0 run overall. Before the Maroons could stop the streak, they found themselves trailing 10-1 with over 20 minutes left to go in the game.

Page added her second goal of the contest with 18:06 remaining. Lindsay Wernert (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich), who assisted on Page’s second goal, added one her own just two minutes later. But the Profs scored the next three goals, extending their lead to 13-3. Kylie Wernert (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) scored twice in the final 3:30 of the game to cut the lead to 13-5. Rowan added its final goal of the contest with just 17 seconds left to make the score 14-5.

The Profs outshot Roanoke, 29-22, in the contest. Sophomore goaltender Debbie Apazidis (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 15 saves in the net for RC.

Roanoke returns to action on Tuesday, hosting the Generals of Washington & Lee in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
