Wernert Named IWLCA All-American
Senior Was ODAC Player of the Year
CHALOTTESVILLE, VA--Roanoke College senior women’s lacrosse star Kylie Wernert (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) was named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Third Team All-Ameriocan squad on Monday. Wernert, who was also selected to the First Team All-Region squad along with teammate Sarah Tengwall (Arnold, MD/St. Mary’s), was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Conference selection for the second time in her career. Wernert finished the 2001 season with 83 points on 59 goals and 24 assists. She led the Maroons in scoring in all but two games during the season and also tallied three game-winning goals for the Maroons, who finished the season with an 8-8 record and advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC tournament. In addition to her offensive exploits, Wernert also finished second on the team in groundballs, third in caused turnovers, and first in draw controls. Wernert’s 83 points were the second most among all conference players, while her 59 goals were also the second most in the league.
