Lindsay Wernert Named ODAC Player of the Week

Senior Scored 11 Times As Maroons Went 2-1

SALEM, Va.--Roanoke College senior co-captain Lindsay Wernert (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse Player of the Week. Wernert scored 11 goals in leading the Maroons to a 2-1 record last week, with both victories coming over ranked opponents. With her help, the Maroons have climbed to the 10th spot in the IWLCA Division III national rankings.

In a 13-7 victory over Hartwick College, which at the time was ranked ninth in the country, Wernert scored four goals. She then added five tallies as the Maroons defeated Bloomsburg University, 11-9. Her final goal of the game, with just 1:22 left on the clock, prove to be the game winner. At the time, Bloomsburg was the third ranked team in the nation in Division II. Wernert also scored two goals in a contest in which Roanoke fell to second-ranked Middlebury College.

After a 16-3 victory over Guilford College on Tuesday afternoon, in which Wernert scored five more goals and handed out two assists, she has 32 points this season on 25 goals and seven assists, all team-bests. She now has 146 career points, which is the eighth best number in program history. She is also just two goals short of reaching 100 for her career. Wernert was a First Team All-ODAC selection last season, as well as a Second Team All-South Atlantic Regional pick.

Wernert and the Maroons return to action on Thursday, as they travel to Lynchburg College looking to go 3-0 in league play. The team will then return home for a Saturday contest with Goucher College, a game scheduled to get under way at 1:00 pm.
