Shelley Olds Named First
Team All-OACTwo Maroon Make Second Team, One Honorable Mention
SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College women’s soccer team placed four players on the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Women’s Soccer team on Wednesday. The Maroons’ selections were highlighted by Shelley Olds (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable) who was named to the First Team. The Maroons, who completed the season 11-7-1, also placed Jessica Germano (Windham, ME/Windham) and Rachel Mitchell (Raleigh, NC/Millbrook) on the Second Team and Kate Enright (Dover DE/Dover) on the Honorable Mention squad. Olds was Roanoke’s leading scorer this season, scoring a record-tying 18 goals and handing out eight assists for 44 points. Her 18 goals tied a school record which was originally set back in 1987. In addition to leading the team in scoring, Olds also was tied for first in the conference in points per game (2.8). She scored three game-winning goals during the season and also set RC records for points in a game (10) and goals in a game (4).
Germano finished the season second on the Maroon squad in scoring, tallying 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Seven of her eight goals on the season came against conference opponents, as did all four of her team-high four game-winning goals. In a game against Hollins, Germano netted her first career hat trick.
One of Roanoke’s most consistent performers all season, Mitchell started 18 of RC’s 19 matches in the midfield. Defensive-minded, Mitchell recorded three assists on the year for three points, but was often a key in the team’s success on the other end of the field.
Enright, who started all but one match in net, finished the year with 74 saves and seven shutouts. She allowed just 14 goals all season and ended up second in the conference in goals against average (0.91). Enright finished her career at RC with 364 career saves, the second most in team history.
