Olds Records Hat Trick in 9-0 Win

Maroons Beat Emory & Henry to Improve to 2-2, 2-0

SALEM, VA--Sophomore Shelley Olds (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable) scored three goals and added an assist as the Roanoke College women’s soccer team cruised past Emory & Henry College on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0. The Maroons evened their record at 2-2 and improved to 2-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Wasps dropped their fourth game of the year, against just one win, and fell to 0-1 in league play.

Jessica Germano’s (Windham, ME/Windham) goal just 2:27 into the contest was the game-winner, as the Maroons improved to 4-0 all-time against the Wasps. Rachel Mitchell (Raleigh, NC/Millbrook) and Debbie Pauletta (Grasonville, MD/Quenn Anne’s County) assisted on Germano’s game-winning tally.

The ‘star’ of the game, however, was Olds. She scored three times on the afternoon, and set up another score for the Maroons. She scored her three goals on nine shots at the E&H net. Her three goals on the day were just one short of her total for the entire 1999 season.

Germano, Pauletta, Laura Hunter (Charlottesville, VA/Monticello), and Melissa Impink (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) each scored a goal and added an assist for the Maroons. Impink’s goal was the ninth, coming off a free kick with just 47 seconds left. Emily Letzkus (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) tallied two assists on the day.

The Maroons outshot E&H, 25-1, on the day and only made their keeper Christine Torzewski (Iselin, NJ/JFK Memorial) make just one stop.

Roanoke hosts Greensboro College in a 12:00 pm contest on Saturday afternoon.
