RC Ties Consecutive Win Record

Maroons Defeat Guilford, 5-0

SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College women’s soccer team tied a program record with its eighth consecutive victory. This one came at the expense of the Guilford College Quakers, 5-0, in Salem, VA on Tuesday afternoon. The Maroons, who have not lost a game since September 10th, improve to 9-2 on the season and 7-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Quakers, who have never beaten the Maroons, fall to 4-9-1 on the year and 3-5 in the ODAC. Roanoke holds a 12-0 lead in the all-time series against GC since the teams first met in 1989.

Playing in her first game of the season for the Maroons, junior Leslie Hunt (Baltimore, MD/Towson) made an immediate impact, scoring the game-winning goal with just over 15 minutes left in the first half. Her shot from eight yards out deflected off of a Guilford defender and to the back of the net. Two minutes after the Hunt goal, freshman Jessica Germano (Windham, ME/Windham) scored her fourth goal in the past two games. Germano was served with a long ball into the box by Melissa Impink (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) and beat the GC goalie.

Shelley Olds (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable) would add two goals and an assist in the second half as the Maroons scored three more times to make the final score 5-0. Becky Peshkin (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor) scored the final RC goal of the day, her fourth of the season.

The Maroons face their toughest task of the schedule so far on Thursday as the play host to the Lynchburg College Hornets. Lynchburg enters the game at RC’s Elizabeth Campus field as the nation’s 15th ranked team. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.
