SALEM, VA--Just one game after scoring three goals, sophomore Shelley Olds (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable) outdid herself on Saturday afternoon, scoring four times to lead the Roanoke College women’s soccer team to a 7-1 victory over visiting Greensboro College. The Maroons are now 3-2 on the season, while the loss drops GC to 2-2-2. Olds netted the first Roanoke goal just 2:58 into the contest, converting a penalty kick. The Maroons were awarded the kick after freshman Jessica Germano (Windham, ME/Windham) was pulled down in the box by a GC defender. With 10:22 left in the first half, the Pride pulled even with the Maroons on a goal from Candice Gardner (Greensboro, NC). The tie would be short-lived, however, as the Maroons marched right down the field and scored just 18 seconds after the GC tally. Olds got her second of the game, looping a shot over the GC keeper’s head.
The second half was all Maroons, as they scored five times in the frame. Olds would add two more, while CiCi Castle (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) also scored twice in the half. Freshman Becky Peshkin (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor) scored RC’s first goal of the half, and then went on to post assists on the next two. Olds also had two helpers in the game as well.
The Maroons take the four days off before heading to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm contest against the Yellow Jackets.
