ASHLAND, VA--Shelley Olds (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable), fresh off being named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week, scored two second half goals to lift the Roanoke College women’s soccer team to a 3-2 comeback win over host Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday. The Maroons are now 4-2 on the season, 3-0 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets fall to 3-4, 2-2. The teams headed into the half tied at one, but the Yellow Jackets went up by one with 27:57 left in the contest on a goal by Leanna Van Olsen. Olds would bring the Maroons even, however, just 33 seconds later. About six minutes after her game-tying goal, Olds put in the game-clinching score. The two tallies were Olds’ eighth and ninth of the season.
Roanoke’s CiCi Castle (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) gave the Maroons a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal just five minutes into the contest. The Yellow Jackets tied the score just two minutes later and would go on to take the lead in the second half.
Kate Enright (Dover, DE/Dover) made eight stops for the Maroons, who return to action on Saturday with a home contest against the Royals of Eastern Mennonite. The game at RC’s Elizabeth Campus starts at 1:00pm.
