Six Players Named to VaSID Men’s Lacrosse All-State Team; Pilat Named VaSID Coach of the Year
ASHLAND, Va. --- Roanoke College led all teams with six players on the 2009 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Men’s Lacrosse (College Division) All-State Team announced Wednesday evening. In addition, head coach Bill Pilat was named Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. Zach Thomas, Chas Carlson, Stephen Simmons and Sam Love were all named first-team while Pat March and Jake Dorsey were tabbed with second-team honors.
Kelsey Ruitenberg Named VaSID Softball All-State Second-Team
Junior Pitcher/Infielder Kelsey Ruitenberg was named to the 2009 VaSID Softball All-State Second-Team announced this evening. It was the third-straight year the Geneva, IL native has garnered this honor.
Katlyn Scarlett Selected to Play in Annual IWLCA/Under Armour Div. III North/South All-Star Game
Senior goalie Katlyn Scarlett was selected to play in the 2009 IWLCA/Under Armour Div. III North/South All-Star Game announced this morning. The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Under Armour jointly sponsors this event, which showcases the nation’s top seniors.
Roanoke Claims Third Overall in VaSID College Division All-Sports Survey
Newport News, VA --- Roanoke won 64.84% of its athletic contests (175-94-4) in the 2008-09 school year to place third in the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association College Division All-Sports Survey. Christopher Newport won the overall award for the fifth time and the first since 2004-05, winning 69.2% of its games. The survey ranks all 27 non-NCAA Division I schools in the state by overall winning percentage.
Robin Yerkes named 2009 ODAC Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Year
Junior sprinter Robin Yerkes was named the 2009 ODAC Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Year announced this afternoon.
Roanoke Cruises Over Vixens
Salem, V.A. --- The Roanoke College softball team swept Sweet Briar 9-1, 9-2 at Moyer Complex this afternoon. The Maroons improved their record to 24-6 overall and 9-3 in the ODAC. The Vixens are 7-18, and 0-4 in conference play.
Baseball drops two to Eagles
Bridgewater, VA --- The Roanoke College baseball team lost both games (5-8, 7-8) in a doubleheader against Bridgewater College today. The Maroons fall to 10-17 overall and 5-8 in the ODAC. The Eagles improved to (15-11-1) overall and (7-5) in the conference. The Eagles continue to lead the series 13-1.
Baseball defeats Quakers in bottom of the 9th
Salem, V.A. ---The Roanoke College baseball team defeated Guilford College (9-8) tonight in a nine inning contest at Kiwanis field. The Maroons improved to (10-15), (5-6) in the ODAC. The Quakers fell to (14-15) overall, (4-7) in the ODAC.
Maroons defeat Cobras 10-8
Salem, V.A. --- The Roanoke College Baseball team defeated Virginia Intermont 10-8 tonight at Kiwanis Field. The Maroons improved to 5-4 on the season, while the Cobras dropped to 7-11. It was the Maroons third and final meeting of the season with the Cobras. Virginia Intermont leads the series 5-10 since their first meeting with the Maroons in 2002. The Maroons have won five of their last six games.
Maroons Sweep CCNY in Three-Game Series
Salem, V.A. --- The Roanoke College baseball team swept CCNY in the three series this weekend at Kiwanis Field. The Maroons won 15-2 on Saturday evening and 12-3, 11-1 in the Sunday doubleheader. The men improved to 3-3 on the season while the Beavers fell to 0-4. The .500 mark ties the best mark in school history and the best start since 2006 (4-3). It was the first meeting against the Beavers. It was also just the third time in program history that the Maroons scored 10 runs or more in three-straight games. The record is four-straight back in 2004.
