GRANT FOR BUSINESS & ECON

Roanoke College’s Department of Business Administration and Economics has been awarded a $18,000 scholarship grant by the William C. McGowan Charitable Fund. The scholarship will awarded to an outstanding business student in academic year 2005-2006.

The William C. McGowan Scholars Program provides selected colleges and universities with a program to identify an outstanding business student and award him or her with a one-year scholarship. Scholars are awarded on the basis of academic performance, grade point average, a submitted essay, and other selected criteria. Student applications will be reviewed by the McGowan Scholars Selection Committee and the recipient will be selected in April.

Roanoke College awarded its first McGowan Scholarship in 1999. The program has enabled some of Roanoke’s finest students to continue their education and go on to successful careers in business administration.

In a letter announcing the grant, Bernard A. Goodrich, executive director of the McGowan Charitable Fund, wrote, “We are pleased to provide this opportunity to assist a deserving student to receive scholarship assistance and hope to inspire him/her to complete their education and, eventually, take a leadership position in the business world.”
