PROFESSORS
EARP & REYNOLDS RECEIVE GRANT
Dr. Lisa Earp, Teaching
Associate in Education, and Dr. Tim Reynolds, Assistant Professor of
Education, in collaboration with the Southwest
Virginia Professional Education Consortium, were awarded a grant for
$120,399 from the Virginia Department of Education. The grant funds teacher
development in the areas of field supervision and mentoring new teachers. “We
are excited to be a part of this effort to assist pre-service and beginning
teachers in their transitions to successful full-time teaching”,
said Dr. John Day, Vice President and Dean of Roanoke College.
The purpose of the program is to foster an expanded system of teams
of experienced, high quality PK-12 teachers and administrators and university
faculty to assist new teachers as they begin their teaching careers.
The activities of the project will bring together experienced faculty
mentors, pre-service and novice teachers, and university faculty into
a more comprehensive approach to support the induction of new professionals
into a learning community focused upon the continuing development and
well-being of students and schools.
The Southwest Virginia Professional Education Consortium is a collaborative
effort of Roanoke College, Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Hollins
University with nine public school districts in southwest Virginia.
