2.15     COMPENSATION POLICIES

2.15.1              PAYROLL PERIOD

Roanoke College pays salaried employees on a monthly basis.  Faculty salaries are paid over a 12-month period.  (Salaried employees are paid on the last working day of each month.)  Checks are available in the cashier's office on the day of payment and may be picked up between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  If unable to pick up their check, employees must give the College written permission in order to have another employee or relative claim it.  Automatic deposit to bank accounts may be arranged through the Business Office.

2.15.2              PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS

Paychecks show gross compensation, less the tax deductions which are required.  Any other requested deductions must be authorized by the employee.  Any monies due the College upon termination will be deducted from the employee's final paycheck.  Every precaution is taken to avoid errors.  If an error does occur, please contact the Payroll Office immediately.
           
2.15.3              ADVANCES

There are no payroll advances.

2.15.4              COMPENSATION FOR SPECIAL TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS

2.15.4.1           OVERLOADS

When the departmental schedule requires more sections than can be taught as part of the
regular loads of the full-time faculty, members of the department may be given the opportunity
to teach an overload section.  Compensation for such teaching is at the prevailing rate.  The
stipend is subject to withholding taxes and F.I.C.A. deductions.

2.15.4.2           INDEPENDENT STUDIES AND INTERNSHIPS

Faculty members who, with the approval of the department chair, supervise Department Honors
projects, Independent Studies, Internships, and Research Practice are compensated $125 each
unit provided that:

a.         the student has registered properly for the course,
b.         the final grade has been submitted to the Registrar's Office, 

c.         and, the faculty member can demonstrate at least five hours of supervision for this course.
