In 2000-2001

An alumnus, Christopher G. Earnhart, received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellowship for doctoral work in immunology;

Ana K. Planavsky (whose area is evolutionary biology) received Honorable Mention in the 2000-2001 NSF competition.

Matthew L. Roberts, a junior this past year, became a Finalist in the Truman competition (one of 5 from Virginia and 230 nationwide).

One of our students, Adiyah Ali, received a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarship for Minority Students for this past academic year.

In 1999-2000
Brian B. Clark received a $5,000 Udall Scholarship.

In 1998-1999
One Fulbright Award was received by an alumna, Susan M. Foster; her Fulbright was for research in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Other Recent Awards

In 1998, Tania L. Connor made the Third Team and in 1995 Lora Schwehr received an honorable mention of the All-USA Academic Team; both were recognized in the USA Today newspaper.
