Director of Assessment 
Job Description


Job Summary: The Director of Assessment is the administrator of the Office of Assessment and has primary responsibility for assuring that the College assessment program is of the highest possible quality.  He/she is responsible for overall planning, budgeting, organizing, faculty development, and coordination of activities required for campus-wide assessment.  He/she chairs the Assessment Council and reports to the Vice President-Dean of the College.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Plans for and implements the assessment program.
    1. Designs and refines a statement of purpose, outcomes objectives, and assessment mechanisms for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and carries out an annual assessment program for the Office.
    2. Prepares a set of annual goals for the program.
    3. Prepares an annual budget request in support of the annual goals.
    4. Maintains current knowledge about assessment programs, activities, and mechanisms.
    5. Prepares an annual report of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
  2. Works with academic department chairs and program directors and administrative department heads in developing, maintaining, and conducting effective assessment activities.
    1. Designs and refines guidelines for assessment plans and the annual assessment program.
    2. Gives feedback, as appropriate, on assessment plans and annual assessment programs.
    3. Provides assistance, when possible, to academic and administrative departments in conducting assessment activities.
    4. In conjunction with the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Planning, conducts a variety of quantitative and qualitative assessment mechanisms to support campus-wide assessment.
  3. Plans and offers appropriate development activities for faculty and staff.
    1. Plans and conducts workshops and other faculty development programs to assist faculty in conducting effective and meaningful assessment activities.
    2. In conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, plans and conducts workshops and other development programs to assist staff members in conducting effective and meaningful assessment activities.
    3. Informs the campus community about important developments in assessment on campus and throughout higher education through a variety of channels including an Institutional Effectiveness page on the College web site.
  4. Coordinates the activities of the Assessment Council
    1. Convenes and chairs all meetings of the group.
    2. Prepares materials needed by council members in conducting the work of the group.
    3. Provides such follow-up to group actions as may be needed.
