Intensive Learning Task Force

Minutes of the Meeting of
October 5, 1999

Present: Richardson, Crawford, Lee, Ruiz, Hardwig, Chaudry, Gonzalez, Gilster

1. We discussed the format of the Courses Offered Listing for May of 2000, which goes to the printer next week. We agreed to add the language "pending" approval of the faculty" and a statement about time commitment for each course, to the effect that hours of 9-4 M-F should be reserved for class activities. We will also add materials about cross-listing of the courses, and costs for travel trips.

2. We discussed proposals from Gail Steehler, Florinda Ruiz, and Lil Alessa for May of 2000. With minor changes, they will soon be ready to send on to the Curriculum Committee as well.

3. In conjunction with these discussions, we decided that Leah Russell will be consulted about (1) registration procedures for upperclass and freshman students, and that Deans Garren and Whitson will be consulted about (2) class limits of 12 or some other number lower than 15, and about (3) faculty workload for 2 faculty members who are leading a travel trip. Specifically, would it be possible for each leader to gain 1/2 a teaching unit for leading one class, and agreeing to teach during May in 2 out of the 3 years?

4. Our next meeting is scheduled for Oct 12, at 11:30 AM, in Dean's Conference Room, Ad Bldg.
