The Roanoke Disability Determination Services is seeking Case Development Technicians to develop initial Social Security disability claims. Responsible for requesting medical information from identified claimant sources in an accurate, timely and cost-effective manner according to applicable federal regulations and maintaining up-to-date information. Analyze the claimant’s file which includes the application and any evidence which has been submitted. As necessary, interviews the claimant by telephone to clarify his/her statements. Obtain medical and vocational evidence by preparing written correspondence or by telephone contact with all appropriate sources of evidence. Maintain an up-to-date and accurate electronic worksheet, or other case management tools and documents, relevant verbal and written correspondence contacts in each claim folder. Respond to written and verbal inquiries from claimants, their representatives, and professional treatment sources.   
 
Qualification: Knowledge of techniques for gathering and reviewing medical and vocational information. Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret and apply policies and procedures; apply interviewing techniques; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and effectively utilize position related computer applications. Ability to manage a large volume of work requiring multiple tasks. Must possess exemplary customer service skills. Graduation from high school or equivalent, with experience in data entry, word processing, computer-related applications, checking data, and general office work required.  Salary negotiable above the minimum level of pay band based on qualifications.
